SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

It is the responsibility of all staff in the Nursery to make sure that they plan for all children to have access to the curriculum provided. By assessing each child regularly in all areas of learning, staff understand where each child is in his/her own learning programme and how best to plan the next step within the Nursery.

When the staff feel the need to involve the Nursery's regular Advisor, Joy McCulloch, because of concerns about learning, parents will be informed that we have taken this step and an appropriate individual support programme within tie Nursery will be given to the child in question.

Regular reviews will be given for parents. Manager and Advisor. Hopefully the need may disappear because of early intervention. If another agency needs to be involved, however (e.g. speech therapist) then staff will have the information needed to make contact and be able to help parents so that the need can be met. Should the need arise, there is a national Code of Practice for Special Educational Needs to which the Nursery has to adhere so that the children in our care get all the help to which they are entitled.
